Care kit Instruction

Disassembling the flute

  • Separate the flute into its three sections, head joint, main body, and foot joint. Be sure not to touch the keys or keypads because these can easily be damaged.

Cleaning the flute sections

  • Use the bore brush or cleaning rod with the cotton cloth wrapped around the rod to swab the instrument bore.
  • Insert the brush or rod into each end of the main body and foot joint. This will absorb all of moisture from the bore.
  • Insert the bore brush or rod into the head joint until it touches the cork plate above the embouchure hole on the lip plate. Never push against the cork plate. It should not move.

Cleaning the flute sections

  • Wipe the outside of the flute with the clean cotton cloth to polish and remove fingerprints.
  • Never use chemicals or metal polish to clean the finish. This can harm the finish, pads, and corks.

Cleaning the flute sections

  • Use a dust brush to clean hard to reach places and remove dust and buildup between the keys.
  • Clean the tenons inside and out with the cotton cloth.
  • Please note that never use cork grease on the flute tenons or joints. They are intended to be a metal-to-metal fit. We carry the cork grease for piccolos, which often do have corks.
  • The bore should be swabbed after each playing.
  • After cleaning, return the individual pieces of the flute into the instrument case. Do not store the wet cleaning cloth inside the case with the flute, because the moisture could tarnish the flute.
